Annette Messager. Comme si.
The exhibition
At LaM, Messager amused
Annette Messager acts 'as if'. As if stuffed animals could brighten up a ruined city. As if sad things could be resolved with humour. Or, as she puts it, "as if everything were fine, as if we were never going to die". In her installations, the artist, born in 1943 in Berck, assembles elements that are a priori contradictory and sometimes irreverent, and confronts us with our absurdities, using everyday objects that she orchestrates. Daily opens the LaM exhibition: this installation consists of large suspended elements in black skai representing keys, a telephone or scissors, immense in comparison to the men in cloth, without clothes, who are hung by threads.
