Roger-Edgar Gillet, glimpses into matter

"I sometimes say that the best moment of the day is when you're crushing butter on toast. It's the morning's work of art!" explained Roger-Edgar Gillet in 1998. In Eymoutiers, the Espace Paul Rebeyrolle, where a group of works by the artist who gave him his name can be seen on a permanent basis, is home to the work of his contemporary and friend, known for depicting lice as well as humans. Gillet at Rebeyrolle: a cynic at the home of a militant? In twenty-eight works, the exhibition takes a retrospective turn and nuances this idea.
