In Toulouse, Les Abattoirs is hosting the first major retrospective in France of Mickalene Thomas' work, which intertwines love, black femininity and the rewriting of art history, central themes in the Afro-American artist's work. The exhibition, entitled All About Love, is inspired by Bell Hooks' eponymous text, in which love becomes a political and emancipatory act. Between intimate homage and subversion of the canons, the artist's work celebrates the power of black women, adorned with rhinestones and vibrant colours.
