The exhibition

With Hyper Sensitive, the Nantes Museum of Art offers a philosophical reflection on the effect of works that make "the true with the false". Sylvie Lévy, director of the museum, and Katell Jaffrès, in charge of contemporary art, question, from the angle of portraiture, what these works, said to be cold and distant, reveal about our relationship to images and emotions.

The sculptures gathered in the patio of the museum give off silence and rest. The scenography isolates them and the vanishing points embrace them in small groups. They invite a tête-à-tête, whether one approaches the hands signing H.E.L.L.O. (Hello, 2014) in sign language by Gilles Barbier or leans towards the weed facsimiles in bronze (Weed, 2003-2022), by the American Tony Matelli placed along the path at the foot of the picture rails. Mostly full-length, naked or accessorized, the sculptures of the eleven invited artists, both Anglo-Saxon and European, possess the melancholy inherent in photography, which freezes the context and the moment forever.
