"My desire for cinema is very old. The still images were echoes of it because my images are really constructed in a relationship of duration: they ask the question of time from an image which a priori has no duration. I was invited to work on Marseille by the École des Beaux- Arts. But I was unable to make photographs in a city that had carried many images for me and which, at the same time, was no longer my city.
