A member for six years of the association Photolangage, created by the photographer and theorist Christian Gattinoni in the early 1990s, Catherine Poncin (born in 1953) has forged an original concept to legitimize her artistic approach: to make "images through images". For, at that time, taking archives, anonymous photographs and family albums found at flea markets as raw material was not a widespread gesture. Although she does not consider herself a collector, Catherine Poncin is nevertheless fascinated by these vernacular photos which allow her to reactivate the stories, intimate or collective, that they conceal. The artist thus projects herself into places, architectures, eras and life paths, where it is often a question of migration, multiculturalism or resistance to oligarchic power, following her political aspirations.
