The exhibition

The thin layer of gray paper applied by Ernest Pignon-Ernest does not seek to conceal the furrows of blood impregnated in Port-au-Prince wall's, but on the contrary, to reveal a history that is still unknown. Lying on the wall or in La Croix, Ernest Pignon-Ernest sketches the features of Charlemagne Péralte and Jacques Stephen Alexis, two intellectuals and poets assassinated, one by imperialism, the other by nationalism. The long litany of hardships, assassinations, and cruelties that hit Haïti leave a feeling of abandonment, of a death of God. This abandonment, explored in the collages of Ernest Pignon Ernest, transforms places into plastic landscapes. Only one arm remains of Christ, his cross, which was so heavy yesterday, seems to rise from its shadow, but is overhung by the white stele, perhaps redemptive, of the cemetery that lies behind. What is in this drawing is also the heart of Haiti, the one in which he sees an :

"incredible abundance that reigns there, the tragic consequences of the 2010 earthquake that persist, the ruined cathedral, the vitality of creation and the religious syncretism that permeates it all". Ernest Pignon-Ernest

All this is perhaps what we would call creolization - more than a métissage - it is an unpredictable hybridization, a synthesis of these elements of history so strong. In short, an "intervalorisation" of diverse cultures and poetics that since the work of Ernest Pignon-Ernest reveal themselves to us once again.
