The exhibition

What is close to us inspires us

Tom Sam, the Toulouse artist exhibited at Art absolument, returns with a new exhibition at the Samatan Media Library in the Gers. A realistic painter, he drew inspiration from his family and made models of them. Preparatory drawings and photos become his raw material, creating figurative paintings makes manifest in his line a real narrative. By wishing to "stick to reality", the images are embodied and enhance scenes of everyday life. A crocodile appears, faces judge no one and colors are revealed. With work on family photographic archives or magazines, the image is a first trait that the artist comes to reveal by exacerbating it. Specialized in portraits, it is a whole allegory of the living that he utters with men, animals and plants. In a hyper-realism seeking life and its vibration, the creative impulse mixes in creation with a certain aesthetic formalisation. Intimate moments take on another dimension and become genre scenes. Tom Sam, with his exhibition "Families", takes it in the broad sense and goes beyond the simple reproduction of archives for an augmented creation of reality.
