The exhibition

"If you're under 40, you've never had the opportunity to see a Vermeer retrospective," says Pieter Roelofs, curator of the Amsterdam exhibition. With 450,000 tickets sold in two days, the Rijkmuseum's first Vermeer retrospective is one for the 21st century. Beyond the challenge of having been able to assemble, thanks to the exceptional loan of the Frick Collection during its renovation, 28 works by the Delft master out of the 37 authenticated, the museum offers itself the luxury of being able to hang small paintings in high velvet-draped rooms. The promised closeness is achieved, in a light as clear and limpid as that which passes through the painter's windows.
