Zao Wou-Ki. Plage de papier, l’œuvre gravé et imprimé (1949-2008).
The exhibition
The engraved and printed work of Zao Wou-Ki, following a major donation of prints (353!) by Françoise Marquet-Zao, his widow, occupies seven rooms of the rich and beautiful Musée de l'Hospice Saint-Roch. Upon his arrival in France in 1948, Zao Wou-Ki, encouraged by his friend Henri Michaux, quickly took up intaglio and lithography. In this superb Plage de papier, the Musée d'Issoudun exhibits almost all of his engraved work. Patrice Moreau, the museum's director, explains why he chose a chronological approach: "This is the first time that a monographic exhibition of this scope has been held here. The exhibition is organized into six periods, each identified by a room, plus the graphic arts cabinet reserved for technique."
