The exhibition

In Besançon, the Frac Franche-Comté is hosting the exhibition Une pierre sous la langue (A Stone Under the Tongue) by Abdessamad El Montassir, a poetic and political immersion into the silences of the Sahara. Born in 1989 in Boujdour, Morocco, and recently settled in Lons-le-Saunier, the artist and researcher has been exploring the invisible layers of Sahrawi history since 2015 through sound, film and photographic installations. El Montassir works with silence as a material, sculpting absences and acting as a medium for buried memories, in which plants, landscapes and traumas intermingle in a silent yet eloquent dialogue. The title, borrowed from a Sahrawi poem, immediately positions the exhibition as an act of resurrection, a gesture that transforms silence into an alternative narrative. It is a delicate confrontation between weight and language.
