Off the beaten track, in Maine-et-Loire, where he chose to settle some twenty years ago in a charming old farmhouse, Jean-Michel Sanejouand can at leisure pursue his artistic exploration. The hedges, meadows and woods are now his daily life, and he likes to spend his time walking along the dirt roads and picking up a whole bunch of stones here and there. They are at the same time the pretext, the vector and the subject of a whole production of sculptures that are accompanied by drawings and paintings of schematised landscapes. Above all, they are the object of a reflection on the nature of sculpture, and even of art in general. Familiar with the avant-garde adventure of the 1960s, Sanejouand has always kept his distance from the groups and movements that animated them, while at the same time establishing himself as one of the key figures on the French art scene.
